“You don’t look like a person that has an eating disorder. You’re beautiful and you’re happy. And you’re tan.”
This is what a mother (Illeana Douglas) says to her daughter in the exclusive trailer for The Skinny, a web series created by and starring comedian Jessie Kahnweiler as a seemingly carefree aspiring YouTube star struggling through life — and with bulimia. As her mom discovers, you can’t judge a book by its cover.
The dark comedy will premiere on Wifey.TV later this month, after firstmaking its debut at the Sundance Film Festival. Wifey.TV was cofounded by Refinery29 and Transparent showrunner (and The Skinny producer) Jill Soloway.

“Jessie is my favorite wildcard clown of the moment. She’s an actor and a filmmaker and she dares viewers to look at the truth,” Soloway tells EW. “She shines her gaze into things no one else will talk about. Authentic yet absurd, Jessie’s story is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. The Skinny offers experiences so many of us have been to shamed to share — she makes the personal universal one misstep at a time.”
