trust YOUR crazy

Two years ago I was so fucking pissed. I had been working on a pilot script about bulimia for what seemed like forever and everyone kept telling me how much a comedy about bulimia would never sell. “It’s in poor taste. It’s gross. It’s dirty. It NO” those voices seemed to echo inside my head. Maybe they were right — maybe I was crazy? Out of frustration and restlessness and the desire to keep MAKING I dragged my friend Patrick Gookin  out of bed to take photos of me eating cereal off the sidewalk in echo park at 6am. I didn’t know where it would lead but I knew I had to keep making my show. I had to keep going. It wasn’t crazy to make a comedy about bulimia — it was crazy not to. As I kept trudging the path I found magical people who helped me nurture my crazy and suddenly my story became our story — we were creating the art we wanted to see in the world. The skinny is built on the backs of these people. To be getting recognition from The Webby Awards for best drama is a fucking dream but also a reminder to always believe in your crazy. ‪#‎theskinnytv‬
